Elon Musk

SpaceX was founded in 2002, with the goal of creating the technologies to reduce space transportation costs and enable the colonisation of Mars.

Elon Musk was born in South Africa in 1971. In 1990 he became an undergraduate at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Pennsyvania in 1995, and co-founded (with his brother Kimbal) an Internet software company called Zip2. In 1999 he received $22 million when Zip2 was bought by Compaq. He then co-founded X.com, an online financial services and e-mail payment company.

One year later, X.com merged with Confinity, which owned the money transfer service PayPal. Musk became the largest shareholder in PayPal, and was reported to have received $165 million when Paypal was bought by eBay in 2002. He joined Tesla Motors in 2004, and is credited as one of its co-founders; in November 2016 he was its CEO and product architect.
